I am sure most of you reading have heard of the famous “Sidewinder” at least once before. However if you have not, the sidewinder is a low level route that is utilized by Military and sometimes civilian aircraft. Aircraft through here can vary in size from small aircraft such as T-34s and T-38s all the way up to larger aircraft such as the C-130 and C-17.

The route runs all the way around the SoCal desert and is in the R-2508 airspace. The scenery provided throughout the route is unmatched by any other low level, in some spots you can get forest backgrounds, desert backgrounds, and even snowy mountainous backgrounds depending on seasons.

As of typing this I have been there a few times and plan to go more once the weather cools down. With the average of 7-9 passes a day, the trip is definitely worth making if you are in the area,
